Many congratulations to Grace Wilkinson in gaining a distinction with 87 marks out of 100 for her Grade 7 Trinity College London piano exam. Grace studied for her Grade 7 piano examination under the tutelage of Dr Michael Spacie – first receiving tuition in his teaching practice in the year 2011 as a seven year old beginner pianist.
Some of the examiner’s comments included: “Hands were well balanced in this flowing account, with an even tone in the passagework and some musical shaping of phrases….The outer sections flowed well, with a supportive left hand and mostly even passagework in the right….but overall this was well controlled with the pedal….The opening was unhurried and expressively played, with smooth legato in the left hand and a singing melody. The tone was warm throughout but well projected when necessary. There was a sense of musical understanding, despite small slips….Prompt responses throughout, with good security of notes for the most part and mostly well controlled tone….This flowed well overall….Perceptive responses throughout with only small slips.” The examiner also wrote in the General Comments: “A good result, Grace – well done!”
Dr Michael Spacie writes: Grace sat her Grade 7 Trinity College London practical piano exam on Saturday 7th December 2019 and scored 17/22; 20/22; 21/22 for the pieces; 12/14 for the scales etc.; 8/10 for sight reading and 9/10 for aural. An outstanding result for a 15 year old!
